In 2021, the Government of India, in partnership with the World Bank, launched the State Technical Support Unit (STSU) in Uttar Pradesh and 8 other states to improve the coverage and quality of tuberculosis control interventions in the private and public sectors with a vision of TB Free India. 

The Central TB Division contracted India Health Action Trust to implement the STSU in Uttar Pradesh in December 2021, with technical leadership provided by the Institute for Global Public Health, University of Manitoba.  

The STSU strategy brief for Uttar Pradesh (2021-2024) outlines the comprehensive approach adopted by STSU TB in enhancing private-sector engagement in tuberculosis care. The  Brief details the STSU’s role in improving prevention, detection, and treatment outcomes through strategic purchasing, DBT, and multi-sectoral collaboration, aligning with the National TB Elimination Program’s goals. It further outlines the Unit’s pillars and activities, as well as its organisational structure. By implementing these initiatives, the STSU is working towards a vision of a TB-free India.
