In Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, two villages—Gadhiya Rangeen and Nabichi—faced alarming rates of home births, putting mothers and newborns at significant risk. Using insights from the National Family Health Survey, Uttar Pradesh Technical Support Unit (UP TSU), IHAT collaborated with local authorities, healthcare workers, and community leaders to activate health facilities, improve ambulance access, and build the community’s trust in the quality of care provided at the government facilities.
These efforts led to a remarkable shift in childbirth practices, increasing institutional deliveries and fostering trust in public healthcare. The case study highlights the collaborative interventions by multiple stakeholders to promote safe birth practices and improve maternal and neonatal health outcomes.
