Since 2021, IHAT has been implementing Project MANCH to improve maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) outcomes in tribal areas of Madhya Pradesh (MP). The project, supported by HCL Foundation, focuses on Shahdol district in Madhya Pradesh.
IHAT works in close coordination with the Government of Madhya Pradesh (GoMP) & the Institute for Global Public Health, University of Manitoba (IGPH-UM), to assess gaps in effective coverage & to develop interventions that address these gaps at the community, facility & health systems level. Project MANCH aims to increase the availability, quality and utilization of critical MNCH services across the continuum of care in the tribal areas.

To identify and address the gaps in availability, quality & utilization through the span of continuum of care to ensure improvement in quality of care services.
Working in partnership with the government to provide techno-managerial support to strengthen health services at the community, health facility and systems level.
Capacity building of service providers (nursing officers & ANMs) of health care facilities and frontline workers to improve knowledge, skill & practice through trainings & mentoring.
Support in data driven program planning and implementation through strong monitoring & evaluation and adaptive programming.
• Identification and tracking of HRP, sick and newborn
• ASMs are engaged in sector meetings headed by ASHA supervisors where they interact with the ASHAs and ASHA supervisors on various skills like planning field outreach, hand washing, weighing of baby, KMC, etc. and discuss and find solutions to the obstacles in the field.
• Ensuring antenatal care services being provided to women who come for VHSND
• Nurse Mentors provide handholding support to the Nursing Officers and ANMs at the delivery points
• Mini skill labs established in District Hospital Shahdol, Community Health Centre Jaisingnagar, and Community Health Centre Gohparu. Capacity building of Nursing Officers and ANMs takes place based on various skill stations using various methodologies.
• Nurse Mentors discuss and prepare action plans based on the improvement areas and gaps in the facilities during quality circle meetings
• Support is provided in improving documentation and assessment of the LaQshya nominated facilities.
• Strengthening of labour rooms and maternity operation theatres
• Capacity building of service providers of labour rooms and OTs.
Support in improving quality of public health data related to RMNCH services to facilitate data for decision making
1. About 92 nursing officers & delivery points ANMs have been mentored on antenatal care components, intrapartum care, post-natal care services and documentation.
2. 162 outreach ANMs have been mentored on antenatal care services in VHSND sessions & in-house training.
3. 13000 Pregnant women have been reached.
4. 500 High Risk Pregnant Women and 120 sick & small newborns have been tracked till the completion of post-natal period since December 2022.
